February 16th

Welcome to the North Shore Chronic Pain Support Blog, we up-date this site regulary, so check back often for info on meetings, speakers, topics and comments from other followers.

We are a small group but mighty at heart; to the support of others with like minded ideas, positive tales of things that have worked for ourselves, sharing in the neccessary task of bringing speakers to the group, to increse our knowledge and self-awareness, and refreshing understanding of what it is like to live with chronic pain, that others not in Chronic Pain could.
We support each other in our sharing of physical, mental, social, and emotional effects of chronic pain in our lives, to be true and honest description, that is often missunderstood by family, friends, and sometimes even our doctors. Please know that you are in a safe place and that your privacy is our honoured integretal task. Some of us understand what it is like to be "bullied" by our employers, the medical world and with Long Term Disability Designation Agencies. We know because we personally have been through it, understanding through shared experience is revolutionary. Please come, experience, and share with understanding and humour, in a scent free, positive and engaging environment.

This Month we are waiting for confirmation from a great speaker at this point, so please check back before the 16th for the latest information. Please remember to return any borrowed books to keep them circulating. Remember the new time of 12:45pm and that we are now meeting on the Third Wednesday of the Month.

We are pleased to announce that Dr Patrick Meyer Phd., a Registered Psycologist, www.stresslessconsulting.ca will be presenting on March 16th, so please mark this occasion on your calendar now, as a reminder if you feel this is something you would like more information on. Please feel free to suggest a speaker that you can support to come to the group to Linda at the meeting or leave a note for us in the comments area. We wish to encourage you to suggest, support and present that someone special that has made a medical difference in your life, or tell us an area of interest and we will support you to find the right person for our group.

Helpful tips for scooter and wheelchair users

October 2010 Access Transit Newsletter, from Translink

Wheelchair and Scooter Training Moves into the Community

Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC) is now taking its Wheelchair and Scooter Training Program, which is generally held at the Vancouver Transit Centre, to locations throughout the Metro Vancouver region. The Program offers training sessions for seniors and persons with disabilities, in which CMBC trainers work with individuals to teach them how to maneuver wheelchairs and scooters into position on buses and how to navigate the system in general.

At a recent session near the Edmonds Community Centre in Burnaby, participants increased their confidence level in using transit. “I really didn’t think I would be able to do this,” said one woman. “Now I can get to Save-On and the cleaners by myself.” A man using a walker confided that he had always been afraid that he might be able to get on a bus, but not get off - that changed, with the Wheelchair and Scooter Training Program!

These “mobile” training sessions can be set up through TransLink’s Access Transit office. Just call 604-453-4587 to make arrangements.

Google Friend Connect

Hi all, I am not at all knowledgeable about the management of this Blogging but it has come to my attention that YOU could follow this North Shore Chronic Pain Support Group and it's comments on Google Friend Connect. You can find the link to the right side of this page. You will then be notified when someone makes a comment and then you can add comments and follow others. This type of technology is for the young but we can all learn something new very day! (I hope it is not the same thing every day or you may have a problem but then you wouldn't know would you?) Ha-ha. It's good to keep your sense of humour, it is medicine too, did you know? Laughter increases your endorphins and that is a great hormone to have, don't understand then type "endorphins" in the address box at the top of the screen and go from there. Anyway give it a try, be open to new things, it keeps you connected and therefore brings you alive.

August26th 2010

Welcome followers of the Chronic Pain Support Group, (C.P.S.G.) we meet next at Mollie Nye House. The address is 940 Lynn Valley Road, easy Highway access coming east or west.
We begin our meetings promptly at 1pm and finish at 3pm. As we have a speaker, could you please come 5 minutes earlier, so you can be settled and ready to participate, to first listen and then ask questions. Please bring paper and pen for question time.
For those of you who are used to the wonderful "Ladies of Mollie Nye" providing tea, coffee and cookies, please bring your own and some to share, if you are "able" for those who are not. Thanks.

Quote for the month; "Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it isn't there!"

Now I'm sure excited to know who our speaker is this month, well I will not keep you waiting!
This month we are so pleased to introduce to you the fabulous, Ms Susan MacLean, President of our Vancouver ME/FM Society. This group began as two separate groups and has grown to a fabulous collaboration of minds, energy and spirit. (I hope I have that right)
